Their momma passed away due to childbirth complications. They lived in Mississippi County, Armorel or Osceola, Arkansas. The back door was used for the lid for her coffin. She was laid out on an ironing board in their living room to be prepared for burial. John Richard was given to someone else to care for him. Dresses were borrowed for the 4 girls. They rode in a wagon to bury their momma. Don't know location. The family was very poor. Bulla was from Courtland, Al. My mother is 89. I have since located all her siblings except Jr. The oldest sibling, Mattie Mae had to look after her siblings. In 1934, Social services got involved and took my mother and her sister Ruby Stokes to a Catholic orphanage in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Josphine, Bertha, & Mattie Mae went somewhere else. Josphine remembers being with Mattie Mae. Josphine got adopted in 1934 by the Argends in Blytheville. They changed her name to Helen as well as her birthday. Mattie Mae ended up pregnant. She married in 1941 in Littlerock. She had already given her son up for adoption. She cried immensely in her later years. wanting to know what had happened to her family. Mattie Mae passed away in 2000 in Kirbyville, TX. not knowing. My momma, Cora Ann Stokes, reunited with two of her birth sisters, Ruby & Josphine in 2012 after 75 years. in Oklahoma City. All Other Information: The adoption papers state that there was 5 children removed out of the home and my Mom was the 2nd oldest of the 5 children. They were removed out of the home in 1949. I cannot find any information on either birth parent past 1949 except that Lola Mae signed off from the state of Arkansas and John Snyder signed off 6 months later in Pennsylvania. There is no information after that. There is no information or anything that I have been able to get that gives the gender or ages of the other children. My mom was born in 1944, I found a marriage certificate between the birth parent from 1942, and all the children were removed out of the home in 1949 due to poor conditions and neglect. I am assuming that since my mom was the 2nd of 5 that the oldest was born around 1942 or 1943 and the other 3 were born between 1945 and 1949. (Update) Patsy's is 5'3" tall, and always been thin. She has bright sky blue eyes and light to medium brown hair. I don't know the color of hair or eyes of the birth parents, I don't know the height or weight of the birth mother. All Other Information: Hello, I have been searching for my birth family for many years. I was born on 6-12-1947 in Little Rock, Arkansas and given up for adoption 3 days later. I was adopted at 5 months old. My birth mother was 21 years old and had 7 siblings. She lived with her parents who were share croppers so she could help on the farm and with the siblings. She had been dating my birth father and were talking about getting married when she got pregnant. He left town when he heard the news and she left her parents’ home because she didn't want them to know she was pregnant and was in fear of what her dad might do if he found out. She moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, rented a room from a Dr. and his wife, worked as a waitress until near the end of her pregnancy then went to Florence Crittenton Home for unwed mothers until my birth. I think she went back to her parents’ house afterwards but not sure. She had blue eyes and light brown hair, slim built. My birth father had been a Chief Petty Officer in the Navy then worked as a traveling salesman for a grocery chain when he knew my birth mother. He was 6'2” tall, with blue eyes and blonde wavy or curly hair, known as a ladies man. I don't know where they lived or what happened to them. My birth certificate was filled out by my adopted father but the original one is locked up for 99 years according to the State of Arkansas and they won't budge on names or locations. I took the dna test on Ancestry but the closest match is 2nd cousin but that doesn't seem to help. I have paid $1,000.00 to Onmitrace to search but they came up with nothing more than the information I already had after a year. I'm not sure if my grandparents were sharecroppers in Arkansas, Oklahoma or Missouri. I figured it wasn't too far from Little Rock but don't know. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you, Patricia.
