All Other Information: My great-grandparents Charles and Fannie May Porter lived in Kokomo, Indiana in 1909. There is a death notice of a newborn son in the newspaper with a date of birth and death of 6-27-1909 listed with my Great-Grandparents name. However, they brought home a baby girl. There was a widowed woman named Porter who had a baby girl on the same day in the same hospital. On my great-grandmothers death bed, she told my mother that my grandmother was adopted. We have not been able to find a birth certificate, only a baptism record. We have been led to believe that my great-grandparents brought home the newborn of the Widowed Porter woman. However, we do not have any other information and there is no documentation to be found. (Update) Margaret Anne Porter was around 5'3" tall, with brown eyes and brown hair. DNA testing has been done with 23andme. It shows German descent. My maternal grandfather immigrated from Great Britan in 1914. My paternal grandparents descend from Amish and originally from Switzerland.

All Other Information: My father (Donald Perry) will be turning 90 next year and he has always wanted to just know who his birth parents were. My half-brother and I are hoping to give him this information before he dies. My brother and I would also like to have any potential family medical information because of health issues that he and I have both had. We understand that there was a fire in the Veil Maternity Hospital and all records were lost. Donald's birth record number is 77022, Commonwealth of PA. Donald Perry lived in Cornwall, NY most of his life and still lives there. He may have originally been taken to NJ after adoption but the family moved to Cornwall, NY in a relatively short time. I can confirm that information and will post it. Of less know information, my father believes that the birth mother and birth father were students at either the University of PA or Penn State. It was believed that one or both of the birth parents were of Scottish decent. A name starting with "Mc or Mac" ? My father also believes that it was a football player and cheerleader. We did determine that the Univ of PA has no records of cheerleaders before the 50's. There is a McGraw, a Mcginley and a McMullin on the 1924 team. That is as far as we have gotten on our research.

All Other Information: The adoptee is 5'3" tall, with blue eyes, very fair skin and fine, light reddish / auburn hair. She had a slight birthmark near the hairline on one side of her face that faded as she got older. She was able to obtain her original birth certificate (File No. 101789-35 filed on 9-4-1935) and also has her amended birth certificate given to her by her adoptive parents (File No. 101789, Bureau of Vital Statistics, Harrisburg, PA No. 260 amended on 6-23-1936). The birth parents were not married. The original birth certificate says that the birth mother was born in Riegelsville, PA, and that the birth father was born in Trenton NJ. However, the Veil Hospital is known to have falsified some of the information on birth certificates. The birth mother was said to be 20 years old at the time of birth (born in ?-?-1915) and the birth father was 25 years old (born in ?-?-1910). We have not been able to find anyone in census data from those places with the stated names and ages. The adoptee intends to request non identifying information on her birth parents, but we have learned that there is often little available for babies adopted from the Veil. Her adoptive father destroyed all of the adoption papers in his possession in the 1960’s. The adoptee has registered on adoptiondatabase.org. She has not yet done any DNA testing. The adoptive parents lived in Springfield, NJ at the time of the adoption, and moved to Liberty Corner, NJ soon afterwards. The adoptee was told that she was of Scotch-English heritage and that a match was made to the adoptive family based on shared musical abilities. The adoptee played the viola, sang in the choir, and played the organ at her church when she was in high school. She has a wide range of interests and loves swimming, drawing and reading. She enjoys creative writing and has a talent for fashion design and tailoring. Her adoptive grandmother once told her that her birth mother got married several years after the adoption, and that she had contacted the family to try to take her birth daughter back, but the adoptive parents refused. We don’t know if this is really true.

All Other Information: My mother was told she had a girl, born with no rectal opening. She was told not to change the diaper, as it would be too upsetting to her, so she never saw the babies genital area. For the next 2 weeks, my mother was told the nurses would care for the baby, and my mother never saw her baby again. At the end of 2 weeks, the nurses told my mother her baby had died, and that they would take care of everything for her. My mother never saw her baby after she was supposed to have died. For the rest of her life my mother believed her baby had died. In recent years the news has told of cases similar to this, where the baby didn't die, but was adopted out. Since my mother never saw proof that her baby was a girl, or that her baby really did die, I believe it is probable that her baby, which could be either gender, was illegally adopted. The birth father had moved out of the state before the baby was born.

Dr. John A Houck was the delivering doctor, assisted by his nurse Louella Muller. Both were later charged with baby brokering; and were killed together in a car wreck. Only in recent years have things come to light to suggest a twin may have been taken from the family. It is possible the baby was taken to BC Canada; as the doctor and nurse often went there clandestinely.

When she was a baby she can remember people saying she looked much older than her reported age. She believes she was in some sort of foster care for close to a year either in the USA or Canada. Birth mother was 20 years old at time of birth. 5'4" tall, Birth father was 20 years old at time of birth. 6'4" tall, Susan Marion Purvis is 5'7" tall, with blue eyes and dark blonde hair. All Other Information: Family stories and a copy of the hospital birth certificate indicate I must have had a twin brother. My father wanted a girl, bu the attending doctor told my father I was a boy. The nurse, however, told my mother they had a girl. The hospital birth certificate was filled in originally with all information except the name, including "male". The word "male" was erased and rewritten "female" at the same time the name was added. Twins run in my family. This was the first time there had been no twins. However, I believe I was a twin and that the doctor intended to black-market me, but with the nurses' slip-up, he had to take the boy instead. The attending physician was Carl Greenstein. The Superintendent's signature appears to be Sr St.Louis, R.N. which I believe was Sister St Louis. If any male was a black-market baby from Champaign County, Illinois around 1948 I'd like him to contact me. (Update) The birth family eyes are typically hazel or very blue with a dark ring around the other part of the colored area. Men are 6'3" to 6'4" tall, very thin with large hands and long legs on the father's side. Men are 5'9" tall, a little stocky with a more rounded face and tend to have edima in their legs as they get older on the mother's side. The father, 6'4" tall, passed away at age 63 years old of a second heart attack. The mother, 5'8" tall, passed away at age 77 years old and had "Dementia". As for hair color, by now the hair should be grey with perhaps some medium brown. Growing up it would begin blonde and turn "dishwater blonde" or light ash brown after puberty.

My adoptive mother said she brought me home on 12-24-1950. An elderly social worker said that gray market adoptions frequently took place in Baltimore until 1970. Over twenty years ago, I contacted the doctor that took over the practice from the doctor who delivered. His receptionist told me that the doctor of delivery took care of the women who did not keep their babies. I was asked to call back, but when I did, the doctor refused to talk to me. In the background I heard him say he didn't want to talk to me because that baby died. I stopped searching for years. (Update) I have brown curly hair and hazel eyes. My birth certificate says white, but all of the ancestry DNA tests says white (European) with a trace of Native American. My birth father might have been a "blonde" Puerto Rican. My birth mother might have been Barbara Jean Goodwin (maiden name) and 17 at the time of my birth, but I'm not sure about my birth parents. Barbara Jean had brown hair and blue eyes. All Other Information: Does anyone know about a fake adoption scheme perpetrated in Brooklyn in the 1950's!. I was adopted by a Jewish family in Brooklyn, NY, on 5-21-1954. I was purchased for $2000 from an attorney my adoptive father found. I was issued an official birth certificate from NY State under my adoptive parents' names. I was brought "home" on the day I was born. My adoptive mother knew nothing about the adoption until my adoptive father walked in the door with me. Thirty years later, my adoptive father showed me my "original" birth certificate that had the name "Hershkowitz." The story I was told at the time was that both my birth parents were Jewish and that my birth father was an attorney. My adoptive father also told me that he had met my birth mother before I was born and that she was "very young and very pretty." A few years later, I went to the records at the main NY library, and cross referenced and found the Herskowith birth registered. The problem is that I have had DNA testing done by the 3 major companies. All of them returned that I either have no Jewish blood at all or 1%. I have heard about two brothers, one a doctor and the other a lawyer, who were in "cahoots" selling babies in New York and New Jersey. Am I possibly a victim of their scam ? Does anyone know of other attorneys who may have participated in black market babies at the time ?. Recently, we identified a very close match for the name Sanford. A genealogist who has helped me confirmed the match and tracked down birth grandfather and possibly my birth father, one of his sons. The genealogist says that my birth mother was at least 50% Italian and possibly 100% Italian. I would love to track down my birth mother, though it is doubtful she is still alive. Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated. (Update) I am 5'10" tall, with hazel eyes and dark brown hair. I have been tested by FTDNA (37marker), 23 and Me, and Ancestry.

She was with a social worker I think and a court guard all she wanted was to hug me and say goodbye and there was a terrible fight between my adopted parents and her. All I wanted was to go to the lady with the pretty hair and touch her hair. The end result was they held her back and carried me off back down the stairs crying. To this day that scenario has never left me. Also my adopted father had a son from a previous marriage and he showed me pictures of him in his marine uniform and civilian clothes. Funny thing was that I look just like him. His name is Anthony Gurrera and the last I heard is that he was living in Brooklyn N.Y. His mother's name is Mary (Maria). I met her when I was about 11 years old at my aunt's house and she said that I was just like she pictured me. My adopted father came over from Palermo Sicily on the ship called the Alice in 1909. My adopted mother was born in Manhattan at 545 115th Street Harlem on 12-6-1917. I am small framed like my birth mother and 5'4" tall, 115 lbs. Alvin B Greenberg was disbarred from the New York State Bar Association in 10-?-1987 for falsifying thousands of adoption records during his career but was allowed to remain in the firm as a consultant to other attorneys to continue doing this to a lot of innocent children. He had sent a letter to my adoptive parents for disbursements owed which I have but the amount was not listed. I'm not sure if someone told me that Greenberg was black market or if I found out through the New York Library on 42nd Street.
