All Other Information: Bessie Shreves was a second mother to me and my sister. She helped my mother and father in exchange for living with us. Mother always said she was related to us. She is gone to heaven now, but we loved her very much. She worked as a servant to another of our ancestors, Benjamin Brinton from Iowa, in the 1925 Iowa census. In the Iowa 1905 Census directory, she is listed as at same address as Dorcus Shreves, widow of Jonathan Shreves, also of Iowa. In this directory, the lived at Brighton, Iowa. My home town. I have found that Jonathan and Dorcus adopted a daughter, Annice Lind. With Bessie's father's last name being Lind, I am trying to find if Bessie might be Annice's birth sister and if Dorcus and Jonathan adopted her also because as a child, I only knew her last name to be Shreves. Sometimes spelled Shreeves. some of this information I gathered from different Iowa census. I also know that she lived in Answorth, Iowa as a servant to a man named Cady.Bessie never married. This I was told by my mother. Mom died in 2002 and my father has alzimers and only 1 uncle and 1 aunt left, with no more info. I loved this woman and want her to be more than a servant in my geneology reserch results. She needs her rightful place listed in the family history pages. please help me. thank Bessie died 3-15-1967 at the age of 90. She died in Washington, Iowa USA. Buried at the Brighton, Iowa, Hillcrest cemetary. Her tombstone lies close to Jonathan and Dorcus Stones. Jonathan was a civil war union soldier 1898-1925. (Update) Bessie Shreves had blue eyes and ? hair, but when I knew her, it was pure white, not a yellow white. Bessie was 4'9" tall. Don't know anything about birth parents. I want to frnd out more about her birth father, where she was born, if she had more birth siblings, adoped date.doing geneology research and I feel this is important. can't seem to get anywhere, Please help.

All Other Information: I am searching for her adopted parents' name. Sarah was my maternal grandmother. She always said she was born in 1908, but the 1910 and 1920 Census state she was born on 1909. Sarah and her 3 younger sisters were removed from her mother's home while under the care of her paternal grandfather's care. Her mother was taking care of her older sister during child birth. Her father was deceased. Sarah never saw her younger sisters again. She did find her mother and older sister later in life. I personally never met her sister. All Other Information: Searching for any information on the adoption of my grandmother Ann Slater, formerly Anna Helen Whitzel, and on her birth mother Stella Rosenberg. My grandmother passed away in 1887 and it was her wish that I find her mother’s family, descendants ect. She spent her life searching and was able to find very little. I have had no luck as of yet but I know there are relatives of mine and hers and if only we could connect them the story would finally be told and she could rest in peace. This is all I know: My great grandmother Stella Rosenberg or Rosenberger was only 15 years old when she was made pregnant by a much older business man from Town. Her parents sent her away to a home for unwed mothers where she was to have her baby in shame. She didn’t want to give her up but was forced to. She was only allowed to hold my grandma once, then she was taken away and never saw her again. Her family had told everyone she was visiting relatives, and when she came home no mention was ever made of the baby again.

All Other Information: Mabel is now deceased. Her married name was Haeffner (husband Claude). She was born at Lincoln Hospital and the doctor involved was Dr. Walter Neyman Ramey. He was associated with this hospital and also the Lincoln Medical College, which I think, had to do with Seven Day Advents, which was the religion of Mabel's adoptive parents. Mabel was an only child. Both hospitals are closed. Not sure what happened to birth records. Any help you can give me in locating possible birth family would be great. Even though birth parents would be deceased, possibly she had other siblings or other birth family. Mabel always wanted to search but didn't. I am doing this for her son, Terry, my husband. Mabel was raised in Cortland, Gage County, Nebraska. (Update) When younger, Mabel’s hair was dark, brown I think. Not sure about color of eyes but I think blue. (Update) Mabel Rosella Meserve. She was born in Lincoln, Nebraska but the adoption took place on 1-21-1913 in Gage County, Nebraska. The Gage County Judge was H.D. Walden. Mabel was apparently a ward of the “Board of Control for Dependent Children, located at Lincoln, Nebraska”, and the “State Agent for Dependent Children” was a Miss Etta Caton, Lincoln, Nebraska. Miss Caton testified at the adoption proceedings on 1-21-1913.

Carmelita died in 1967. Her only known child is my mother who is 75 Years old. In 1920, Robert William Mastin Jr. was listed as adopted son. This was in Olive, Saline, Nebraska. I cannot find any other information on him. The adoptive fathers name is Robert William Mastin Sr. His birthdate is 5-2-1887 and date of death is 5-3-1941. He was married to May A. Mastin in 1899. I do not have a date of birth or date of death for May A. Mastin. It has her listed as born in Wisconsin. Father born in Canada, Mother born in England. Robert William Mastin Jr. (3rd) was born 4-20-1914 and died 10-27-1978. I know he and his wife Leona Clonts lived in Tobias, Nebraska for a time.

All Other Information: The information passed to me by my mother was a little sketchy and not always consistent, but that her adoptive father, Dr. Milton F. Arnholt, was her natural father is a fact. I know this because many of the names on the family tree I created for him - "Dr. Milton Frederick Arnholt Family Tree" on My Heritage - also appear on my 23andme DNA relatives data. What's interesting is that because so many of grandpa's forbears immigrated from Alsace Lorraine, and because my fathers were pretty much all French, I was surprised to find this ancestry breakdown from 23andme: British & Irish 26.3%, French & German 18.4%, Scandinavian 13.0%, and 29.3% broadly Northwestern European, with the remaining percentages Southern European, Eastern European and Broadly European. And there are sooo many Carlsons, Nelsons, Olsons and Johnsons, Clarks, and Collinses, along with the Wagners, Straubs and Meyerses, so that cinches it for me that my maternal grandmother's heritage included British, Irish, Swedish, Norwegian and other European lines. So I would sooo love to know more about her, and any help will be greatly appreciated. (Update) Elaine was 5'4" tall, with grey eyes and light brown hair, in youth.

All Other Information: My mother was told she had a girl, born with no rectal opening. She was told not to change the diaper, as it would be too upsetting to her, so she never saw the babies genital area. For the next 2 weeks, my mother was told the nurses would care for the baby, and my mother never saw her baby again. At the end of 2 weeks, the nurses told my mother her baby had died, and that they would take care of everything for her. My mother never saw her baby after she was supposed to have died. For the rest of her life my mother believed her baby had died. In recent years the news has told of cases similar to this, where the baby didn't die, but was adopted out. Since my mother never saw proof that her baby was a girl, or that her baby really did die, I believe it is probable that her baby, which could be either gender, was illegally adopted. The birth father had moved out of the state before the baby was born.

I think my father was Dale and I think they named me Grace....baby memories. We lived at 1316 Broad Street in San Luis Obispo...of course, I did not recall that address but I recognize the house. Here is what I have discovered using ancestry.com: 1. Birth mother Evelyn Brennaman (married to Ray Glime at the time of my birth in 1943). Living in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Birth father Elmer Lyle Larsen (married to Theresa Larsen with a 2 year old daughter, Janet, at the time of my birth in 1943), Living in Lincoln, NE. In 6-?-1947 or 7-?-1947 ? , my birth mother came to SLO and took me by force with her. There was quite a scuffle and I remember 2 men in tan uniforms carrying my dad out the front door and he seemed unconscious. When I got to Nebraska my name and birth date were changed. (Evie and Elmer had another daughter, Jannine, 3-2-1946. I have her birth certificate and a photo taken at her first birthday. Evie had remarried (divorce from Ray Glime, 8-?-1945, I have copies of the divorce proceedings from Pottawatamie Couunty Iowa). Harold Curtiss and moved to Lincoln, NE. I was adopted under the bio of the other little girl (adoption dated 5-?-1948). I do not know what happened to the little girl but consider the possibility that she died and that was the reason for the "replacement". Anyone looking for me would have challenges since I have a new name and a new birthdate and Evie has a new name and has moved to NE. In 1950 the Curtiss family moved to a very small town, Emerson, in Northeast! NE (pop. 690) Do you know how I could learn about the history of adoption in California ? This is my thinking: I know there was a glut of illegitimate babies born during WWII and the system was strained finding adoptive parents for the children. Could it be possible that Evie gave me to someone related to her ? To a friend ? somehow, she knew where I was living. What questions should I be asking ?. Here a few scattered details. Ray Glime, Evies first husband, and his trucking partner, Gerald Van Fossen (Gerald was married to Evie's sister, Dorothy. Dorothy was about 16 months older than Evie) transported dynamite to the West Coast. Ray, Evie, Gerald, Dorothy and 2 Van Fossen children (Harold, and Doris) lived together in Avoca Iowa (notes Doris Van Fossen Coberly made about her life) about 1940-1942. Evie filed a deed to the house at 3708 B Avenue in Council Bluffs, Iowa in 12-?-1942. The Van Fossens has moved back to Center Point Iowa by then. Evie's best friend was Elisabeth Curtiss, sibling of Harold Curtiss. They were classmates at Empire Beauty School in Omaha, NE, graduating in 5-?-1947 ?. I do not know how long they had been best friends before that. Elisabeth introduced Evie to Harold at a party and they were married that same week (6-21-1947 or 6-22-1947 ?). Elisabeth's oldest brother, David W. Curtiss, was stationed at Camp Roberts, CA (about 45 miles north of SLO) and deployed to the European theatre just after D-Day. I have emailed his son for the exact dates. This is a challenge, to be certain, but I loved my California parents very much and it would mean so much to me if I could find their families and re-connect. The first picture is my full sister, Jannine Brennaman born 3-2-1946. The picture was taken on her first birthday. 3-2-1947 The second picture is dated 7-?-1947. All Other Information: I am searching for my father's birth parents, any possible (half) birth siblings or other birth family members, medical history, and genealogy records. My father was born in Milford, Nebraska. The exact location is unknown. It is possible that his birth mother was sent there to live at the Nebraska Industrial Home (founded in 1887 and closed in 1953) for "wayward and indigent women and girls who have met with misfortune in life." He was told that his birth mother was around 16 years old at his birth and that his birth father was an approximately 40-43 year old family friend. He was also told that his birth mother tried to keep him, but was unable to care for him. He then resided with his maternal grandparents by birth, who also were not able to care for him. They sent him to live with the paternal grandparents by birth who could not care for him and placed him up for adoption in the Iowa Annie Wittenmyer Home in Davenport, IA (also known as the Iowa Soldiers' Orphans' Home, and closed in 1975) before he was a year old. During this time, he suffered from appendicitis and a hernia attributed to extreme and lengthy crying. I am not entirely sure if this was health history given to the Home or if these things occurred while at the Home. His adoptive parents were granted custody of him in late 2-?-1953, and his adoption was formalized in 3-?-1955. We do have a copy of this decree from Black Hawk County where they resided. He was also told that before he was placed into the Home, there were court cases relating to whether Nebraska (where he was born) or Iowa (where he was sent) was the state required to be responsible for his welfare. Due to the inter-state regulations, he has had a lot of difficulty in being granted access to any records. Essentially, Iowa is a sealed adoption state. They will only release that he was in fact born in Milford, NE. The state of Nebraska has more open laws and has essentially admitted that they have the records he seeks, but they are denying him access because he was adopted in Iowa, not Nebraska. We are also unsure if his surname (Sewell) was from his birth mother's family or his birth father's family. My dad feels it is most likely his birth mother's family name. He was also told by his adoptive mother that they were informed by the Home that he might have some Native American ancestry, but this was not verified. All of this information is what his adoptive parents told him when he was 9 years old, as well as the full force of what he was able to gather from his own research through the years. (Update) John David Stewart present height is 6'5" tall, with blue eyes and dark blond / light brown hair.

(Update) Birth mother was small build and weighed 125 lbs., with blue eyes and blond hair, at the time she was admitted to the hospital, according to Child and Family Services. Birth father's info is all unknown. Dan was 5'10" tall, weighed 175 lbs., with blue eyes and blond hair, at his time of death. He died of a massive heart attack at the age of 49 in 2008.
