All Other Information: Opal Marley was my grandmother (mother's mother) Both for personal genealogical reasons and because I'm working on a historical novel based on this adoption, I would like to get copies of whatever records that exist. I will reimburse / pay for the cost of any copies or postage. Emailed photos of documents are fine, too, so long as I know where the documents are and can see / verify the source. Also, it appears Albina Campbell might have had a previous child in addition to Opal that she gave up for adoption. That would have been between 1893-1900. I would love to have any information I can about that adoption as well although I don't have anything more than that in the registry on 2-23-1900 it said that Albina Campbell gave birth to a girl, no name, no birth father's name (my grandmother Opal) and that it was her 2nd child. (Update) Albina Campbell was born on 7-22-1882 and Opal was born on 2-23-1900. So Albina "Bina" was 17 1/2 years old when she gave birth to Opal. Sidney Grant was born on 1-31-1881 so he was 19 years old.

Searching For: real family history, the story was that Regina’s parents lived & worked at the Bangor State Hospital and doing they were not allowed to have children, so when my grandmother was born they put her in the children’s home. And when she was two her aunt and uncle adopted her and then raised her as their own. The Clukey’s are of French descent but the DNA does not show any French results on my Dad’s side. Any help would be appreciated.

The story goes that his father was part of a hospital ship crew in port in Maine in 1-?-1943 and left suddenly and that my paternal grandparents were planning to marry. She gave birth in a home for unwed mothers 10-23-1943. Her name was Ruth Herbert and was 19 years old at the time of birth. My father was never officially adopted and came to my grandmother as a foster child between 15 mo to 2 years of age. The name of the father on my Dad's birth certificate. is hard to read it looks like Elger Schlandt it says he was from Texas. I am not sure if she knew the birth parents or if there was a relation involved but my father's (adoptive sister's son and him resemble each other close enough to confuse my children. (Update) We believe birth fathers last name is Schlandt, he was born about ?-?-1917 ? in Texas. He was working on a hospital ship relief crew the beginning of ?-?-1943 ? in Casco Bay Maine.

All Other Information: I know that Gloria and her brother Lawrence were taken by the State of Maine due to the living conditions in the household at the time. I wrote a letter to the State of Maine hoping to find out some more information, but because it was a closed adoption I received very little information. They were able to tell me that Lawrence had passed away in California as an adult and that Gloria was adopted at the age of two. The adoption took place in Cumberland County, but I’m not sure where the family who adopted her lived. My mother was born a year after Gloria was taken by the state and thankfully was raised by a loving aunt and uncle who took great care of her and she remained in the family. If Gloria resembles the rest of the “birth family” she would have dark brown hair, brown eyes and a tanned appearance. She could range anywhere in height from 4’10” to 5’5”. However, majority of the family, including my mother are around the 5’0” mark. The family is Caucasian, but with French ancestry that makes them look “tanned”. Birth mother had dark brown/almost black hair and brown eyes. Birth father had brown hair and blue eyes. (Update) I was misinformed with some of it. There were actually 3 children taken by the state. Peter, Lawrence & Gloria. Lawrence was killed in a construction accident in Florida (not California) at the age of 19. Information that my mother has, stated he was never adopted and lived with a foster family. However, I am still unable to come up with anyone by the name of Lawrence St. Peter, which leads me to believe he may have gone by his foster families last name even if it wasn't legal. Peter was the older of the three, about 3 or 4 when he was taken. Peter was also never adopted and lived with foster families. He spent a good deal of his adult life in Pine Village in Bangor with mental issues. My mom had met Peter and he has since passed away. The information I have on Gloria still remains the same. The state reported that she was a healthy, baby girl who was adopted out of Cumberland County. Mom recalls someone telling her that the three of them were taken to a foster family in Portage, ME before they were placed with other families. (not sure how true that information is though)

My grandfather's name was...Harry Copeland Skinner...my grandmother was...Flora Colby. I believe I have a birth sibling by the name of...Kathleen Kane. I met my birth half aunt by the name of Katherine Karatsanos but did not get much information. My grandfather was listed as "mulatto" in records I have found on Ancestry.com...the name Carter comes up as well...I know my birth mother gave away a couple of other children I believe she had as well. I was told I had a brother Kenny Rocker who drowned as an adult. If anyone can help me...especially with birth siblings...race...any family I Thank You in advance.
