All Other Information: Bertie Mills Malhiot birth family whose daughter was likely adopted and she was sent to an all-girls school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before 1900. Bertie Malhiot has a sister Christie Gertrude Malhiot also adopted and interestingly both claim the parents are Samuel Mills Malhiot and Bessie Pugh of Napoleonville, Assumption, LA. Both girls left the All-Girls School in Milwaukee, WI and were married in Wisconsin by 1910. Bertie Malhiot is my grandmother and I have strong French Canadian DNA tested with FamilyTreeDNA.com and 23andMe.com and AncestryDNA.com and my DNA data is also on GedMatch.com website. My step father told me that her native language was French. Bertie Malhiot died in Milwaukee, WI on 4-3-1973 and was buried as Bertie Mills Thompson. I have both marriage records for Bertie Malhiot and her sister Christie Malhiot from Wisconsin available. I believe the girls were adopted as the Malhiot family denies that they were part of the family. Both girls are not listed on the 1900 US Census with the Samuel Mills Malhiot and Bessie Pugh Malhiot household in Police Jury Ward 5, Assumption, LA. Neither girls claim to be adopted. Adoptee (deceased) is my father. My father's adoptive grandmother told my mother that my father's birth parents posted an advertisement looking for a couple to adopt my father as he was very ill and they could not care for him. When his adoptive parents went to see him, his parents and two or three other kids were living in a car at Cross Lake. She also stated that one of the biological parents was a grandchild or great-grandchild of Chief Sitting Bull. She further related that adoptive parents and biological parents corresponded for about a year after the adoption, at which time the adoptive family read a newspaper article in which a Williams family perished in a hotel fire somewhere in Louisiana. The adoption was accomplished by a Notary Public named S. M. Riser and it was "filed and recorded 11-15-1928, at 9:12 AM, by Helen Rogers, Dy. Clk. & Ex-Off. Dy. Recorder. Recorded Conv. Book 269, page 837. Inst. #60,117. Certified 7 Jan 1949 by Deputy Clerk and Ex-Officio Recorder" and witnessed by birth parents, adoptive parents and notary, as well as E. D. Guthrie and C. E. Key (possibly Carl Emerson Kea, brother to Maud). Adoption record obtained from Clerk of Court, Caddo Parish, 501 Texas St. - 103 Courthouse, Shreveport LA 71101-5408. To date, no birth certificate (either original or adoptive) has been found.

All Other Information: My aunt was born on 8-10-1931 in New Orleans named, my grandmother named her Valerie, but we think her adopted family named her Elizabeth Duffy Kennard She was born at home on 8-10-1931 by midwife. My grandmother (the birth mother) was told the baby was dead (my grandmother had passed out during the birth because she was an epileptic), they had her sign what she thought was the death certificate (it must have been the adoption consent). She later found out they had lied. She went to the midwife, who gave her a little, a very little information. My grandmother was able to locate her birth daughter (she came across a picture in the Times Picayune), she confirmed it via the midwife. The rest of this story is what we think to be true…… My grandmother never contacted her birth daughter, she only watched her through the Vivant section of the Times Picayune, she even attended her wedding (at the St. Louis Cathedral), sat in the last pew and said nothing! We have pictures from when Elizabeth was Queen of Comus in the early 50's and each year she attends the Queens of Comus luncheon in New Orleans (she now resides in Rome Georgia). You see.... we have no birth certificate, my grandmother had one, but burnt it. My grandmother, my mother and her two other children have all passed now and this aunt is the only one left. I don't want to contact her without first seeing it for myself on a birth certificate........... Her birth name was Valerie Howard (or maybe Mones, they may have listed my grandmothers maiden name) her adoptive name is Elizabeth Duffy (Kennard) Neal, she is married to Bernard N. Neal and they have lived in Rome Georgia since 1950, they have two children John and Elizabeth. John Neal must have gotten word of one of my posts and called me…. He said that he would appreciate it if I would stop saying things that I do not know to be correct for certain. He went on to say that he was absolutely positive that his mother was NOT adopted and that I should look elsewhere for my aunt because his mother was NOT her… he was not very nice….. w We don't even know if Elizabeth knows that she was adopted, because I know back then most adoptions were done on the hush hush............... All Other Information: My husband’s fathers birth parents or at least birth mother. His father passed away in the late 70's from a heart attack he was in his 40's. He had become a very respected pediatrician in Lafayette, LA. on the adoption paperwork it states that he was abandoned in the character of a foundling but on other correspondence from Mercy Memorial it states that he came from a splendid family and should grow up lovely. Also on a letter from Mercy Memorial it stated that Miss Smyth appreciated the adoptive parents message to her. I think she might be the birth mother. One of my husband’s great aunts went with his grandparents when they adopted his father and said that he was sickly looking and not of good health which is why they wanted him. (Update) Donald Gillis James was approximately 6'1" tall, with hazel eyes and brown hair, when he passed away. The paperwork states that he was abandoned upon birth at Mercy Memorial Home yet also states he came from a good family. He was 9 months old when adopted.

All Other Information: This would have been an illegal adoption that would have taken place out of Charity Hospital in New Orleans, Louisiana. It would probably occurred from sometime in September 1936 on. The child and his parents were living in Tensas Parish when at about three months of age, Hollis became ill with a diarrhea. Mr. and Mrs. Wactor were extremely poor and rode a bus to Charity Hospital in New Orleans seeking care for Hollis. Hollis was admitted to the hospital, but the Wactor's were unable to remain in New Orleans due to their financial condition. They returned by bus to Tensas Parish. They had been home only a short while, when some local authority contacted them to inform them of notification from Charity Hospital in New Orleans, that Hollis had passed away and that they should not return to claim his body, because he would be buried by the time the would arrive. The family has searched for a death certificate which should have been issued since he was supposed to have died in the hospital, with no success. Mrs. Wactor always believed that Hollis was given away without her consent.

All Other Information: A beautiful, brown-eyed Caucasian baby boy was born in New Orleans on 8-3-1937, possibly at a Methodist home that was named "Methodist Mercy Home" - and possibly the birth parent was named "Meredith". The baby was adopted by my sister and her husband, Florence and Joseph M. Beebe, who lived in Tullos, La. at the time, and later moved to California. Both are deceased. I was told he was the son of an unwed Methodist minister's daughter. In the baby's book my sister kept, I saw part of a worn document that read "Meredith baby". Whether or not this name would be relevant or not, I do not know. That is the extent of my knowledge about his birth. All Other Information: I am looking for my biological grandmother. My Mother (now deceased) is the adoptee. My sister just recently found out she has some rare form of germ cell cancer. We would like to know medical background at the least. Maybe something in the medical background could help in the cure for my sister. All of the information that I have gained was from my adoptive grandmother's (now deceased) memory. The adoption was finalized in 1944 in St Landry Parish, Louisiana. The adoptee was about 1 year old. The last name of biological mother was believed to have been "Richeson" or a similiar spelling. I did find the adoption file in the books in the St Landry Parish Courthouse but when went upstairs for the file, was told that it was missing. (Update) Birth mother was 15 or 16 years old at time of birth. Birth father was 18 years old, possibly in the military. Dorothy Joyce Culbertson height was 5'11" tall, with hazel eyes with beautiful strawberry red hair, was blonde until around 4-5 years of age then red.

I was born between 6-29-1945 and 8-4-1945 probably in east Texas or western Louisiana. My birth date on my birth certificate is 6-29-1945 but the Dr. did not sign it until 8-4-1945. The Doctor's name on my birth certificate is A. E. Douglas, but I was told that he was not the one who actually delivered me. The doctor who was supposed to have delivered me was from Sulphur, Louisiana. My adoptive parents lived in Orange, Texas at the time. My adoption was always kept secret until my mother had a stroke and let it slip out. My adoptive parents were Lonnie Herbert Burnett and Lula Doris Burnett (maiden name Wallace). All Other Information: William Andrew "Bill" Hays was in the service, lived in Arkansas possibly stationed in Mississippi or Louisiana in 1946 and was married to Connie Hays in Heber Springs Arkansas. Bill was 28 years old, Anne Marie was 19 years old when Sue was born. Her name was Suzanne and she had it legally changed to Sue but we're not sure if her birth mother or adopted mother gave her the name Suzanne. Birth mother was abandoned by her biological family. Birth mother was found in an abandoned cabin and the family that found her continued to care for her. The family showed unaccountable interest and responsibility for her. There is no information known about birth mothers biological family, except that her mother was a normal person who had previously given birth to four or five children. Birth mother was with a foster family at the time of her pregnancy. Only information about the birth father is he was 50 years old and a carpenter. Birth mothers medical history reported "she was thought to have had 3 light strokes during early childhood. She had a IQ of 54, classifying her as feeble minded." Birth mother was not considered a desirable student but she occasionally showed more comprehension in her school work than the teachers thought she was capable of. Johnny was discharged from Shreveport Charity Hospital on 11-17-1948 and placed with a foster family. On 4-12-1950 he was placed with his adoptive family and adoption was finalized on 7-6-1951. All Other Information: The adoptee, George Troy Langlois, may have been born to a woman with the last name of St. Pierre. This information was relayed to us by an adoption attorney we are friends with who happened upon this information while researching a case for another client. Since we live in such a small parish, she was reviewing the entire list of adoptions for the parish for several years in which Troy's adoption was one of them and noticed that Troy was on the list she had. She informed us that if his birthday was in fact 8-5-1950, which is when his birthday is celebrated every year, that he was the only single birth, white male born on the date in question and if he was this baby, his mother's last name (maiden or married) at the time was St. Pierre, but as I stated the birth date may or may not be accurate. Due to the fact that I was not ready to pursue a possible road of heartache or disappointment I chose not to act on the information and ignored the data she had. Now she is no longer with us and I would like to know where I came from. The birth day of 8-5-1950 may be off a day or so in either direction due to the fact that the adoption agency / social worker stated to Iris & Allie (the adoptive parents) that the mother May have kept him for a period of hours or even days before finally relinquishing him. There is more information we have been given over the years. The mother may have been at a school for wayward girls or a boarding school and she may have been impregnated by a teacher or professor of hers because the story Iris and Allie were told when they adopted him was that his mother became pregnant by a teacher of hers and that she went to New Orleans to give birth and Troy was adopted 7-9 months later to Iris and Allie. Due to the nature of this story for the social worker and Troy's genius level of intellect he was dubbed the professor form an early age. I know the details are sketchy; however I truly hope we can find some information that will open the door to our past so we can further on in our future quest of life, because you never know where you are going, until you know where you have been. ***The story we were told by Iris and Allie (adoptive parents) was that their friends referred them to a local priest who then informed them that he would see to it that they were given a child and were referred to an agency where they were visited by a social worker who then connected them with the baby (Troy-my dad) in question. The social worker made a home visit and then began the process of adopting him. Iris and Allie had adopted another child, a girl, born 10-30-1947 also in New Orleans.

All of the birth father's siblings were described as being in good health. The birth father's maternal great grandmother was alive and was 101 years old at the time. Both the birth mother and birth father's families were described as good, church going people and lived "wholesome" lives. The birth mother did not have any complications during the pregnancy. The child was born on 8-1-1953 at Touro Infirmary. At birth, the child weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces and was 19 1/8 inches in length. The birth mother named the child Gloria Faith at birth. She said that she named the baby after a friend of hers. The birth mother signed the surrender of parental rights on 8-5-1953 and she left the maternity home on the following day. The child was placed with the adoptive family on 12-18-1953. The final decree of adoption was issued on 9-8-1954. My bio maternal grandmother requested a private room in the hospital. During her childhood, she lived in Fort Mill, York County, South Carolina. The places and times of birth and residences match the non-identifying information provided by the state of Louisiana. Rebecca Clark was widowed at the time of this child's birth. She had 2 children from her marriage to Mr. Clark and 1 additional child from this relationship with the father of this child to whom she wasn’t married. In the non-identifying information, the birth father was 39 years old and listed as married. Rebecca also went by the name of Reba, Uriba and maybe Becky. She died in Biloxi, MS on 12-21-1987 and may be buried in Greenwood Cemetery / Cypress Grove in New Orleans on 12-28-1987 in the Plot of the Family of William C. Holmes. All Other Information: My mother became pregnant out of wedlock. She was a month pregnant when she graduated high school in Baton Rouge, LA. She was sent to a convent in New Orleans to await the birth of the baby. Her parents came when the baby was born and made my mom put the baby up for adoption. They were a respectful family from Baton Rouge and it was the 1950's. My mom and dad were married on 5-17-1957, I have two other brothers. I am the baby and only girl and was born 2-8-1966. My mother told me of my half brother right before she died when I was 30 years old. I searched for him, but only got a nice letter from Catholic Charities. I was told that my brother had blond hair and grey eyes. He weighed 6 lbs., 8 oz. and was 18" long. He had a pale, fair complexion. My mother was very olive toned. He was adopted almost 5 months later by a local couple. The birth father had a B.S. Degree in Accounting and the mother had attended two years of college majoring in Commerce. They were physically similar. My grandparents names were Charles Pearlie LeBlanc and Herminnie Arceneaux-LeBlanc.

My birth certificate is fake. adoptive parents said a Dr. O.R. Depp was instrumental in arranging the adoption but the birth certificate list a Dr. Nathan Gisclair as attending physician. Was told I was picked up from Baptist but on the bc the line for place of birth is blank. I also was told by my a-mom that my b-mom was an older woman who's husband was either in jail or a TB sanatorium at Charity and that I was the result of an affair b-mom had while her legal husband was away. Charity hospital did have a TB sanatorium at one time. My pediatrician was a Dr. Terral who some relatives say was involved in my adoption somehow.
