No evidence the family ever lived in South Carolina, although Natt Wagner was from Buncombe County, N.C. A distant "cousin" now tells me family oral history confirms my mother was adopted. Its been said that my father was a high ranked officer in the military, and could have been over seas during WW2. I don't think I was ever brought home from the hospital by my b. family. When she was a baby she can remember people saying she looked much older than her reported age. She believes she was in some sort of foster care for close to a year either in the USA or Canada. Birth mother was 20 years old at time of birth. 5'4" tall, Birth father was 20 years old at time of birth. 6'4" tall, Susan Marion Purvis is 5'7" tall, with blue eyes and dark blonde hair. Susan's birth was registered in Niagara Falls Ontario on 11-22-1946. Susan was never told she was adopted. She tells me that she just doesn't remember his name. After having many conversations with her, I just don't believe her. My birth mother was sent to the Greenville Rescue Mission in Greenville, S.C. when she found out she was pregnant with me. When she came home from the Greenville Rescue Mission her parents were living in Anderson, SC. Nobody in her family knew she had given birth except for her mother, father, and older sister. She later married Donald Day and moved to Elgin, SC where she resides today. She gave birth and raised 3 daughters and one son. Of course none of them had any idea that I existed until I contacted her years ago. I would appreciate any help in locating my birth father. (Update) I believe birth mother was 17 or 18 when she gave birth to me. I have no idea how old my birth father was. She will tell me nothing about him except that she went with him to his prom and she wore a pink dress. She also has told me that her oldest sister, Edith, said he came to their house looking for my birth mother after she was sent to the unwed mother's home. All Other Information: My birth mother lived with my adoptive parents for approximately two months before I was born, but my parents have always insisted that she did not tell them much about herself (which I find difficult to believe). I was told she was from (possibly) Ohio, and that she had previously had a daughter in Florida that was adopted out of a home there. My dad knew the man with which she was living (a boarding home back then), who told him my birth mother was being abused by some man that she had moved in with and that she was pregnant. All attempts have been futile on my part to locate her, as it is unsure whether the name that was given is even correct, although I sued to have the adoption papers released in S.C. a few year back (which failed) the judge did tell me that the Haydon name was what was on the birth certificate. Any help would be appreciated, my father worked for the rail road during this period of time and we were living in the South Kilbourne area of town at the time.

All Other Information: I am looking for any information on my birth parents / family. I know that my birth mother's name is Dorothy Pearl Cothran. That is the only information I have on my birth mother. I do not know my birth fathers name or any information about him. I was adopted when I was 2 weeks old from Mayfield Children's Home aka Kershaw County Children's Home in Camden, South Carolina. I was born on 1-14-1958 at 10:52AM at Camden Hospital. I was told that I weighed around 5 lbs when I was born. I am currently 5'4 with brown hair and brown eyes. I have my adoption papers and my birth certificate (certificate #139-58-005480) with my adoptive parents names on it. I have received papers from Camden Archives and Museum. The file they have with my adoptive parents name on it included the following documents: letters to Mrs. Margaret C. Mayfield from my adoptive mother, the adoption application that my adoptive parents had to fill out and what looks like a surrender form that is partially filled out; I assume by my birth mother to put me up for adoption. I also received some information on the Mayfield Children's Home. Both of my adoptive parents are deceased, I never asked them anything about my adoption. I didn't want to hurt their feelings by asking about my birth parents. Decree of Adoption 6-4-1958. The judge was J. Douglas Montgomery, Clerk of Court was W. Edward Ogburn, Attorney for Petitioners was Harold W. Funderburk and Guardian ad Litem for the minor was Frank E. Rector. The Decree of Adoption jacket says the state of South Carolina, county of Kershaw. In the court of Juvenile Domestic Relations. It also states Harold W. Funderburk attorney at law, Pritchard Court Building, Camden, South Carolina. Adoption was finialized on 6-4-1959. The Summons, Notice, Petition-2-24-1959. Attorney for Petitioners was Harold W. Funderburk. The Decree of Adoption states that I lived with my adoptive parents for 1 year before the adoption became final. I don't know what this is, but on the Decree of Adoption and the Summons, Notice, Petition it says Esquire after some of the names like the attorney and the guardian ad Litem for the minor respondent. I am not sure what this means.

All Other Information: According to some previously found information, my birth mother came to South Carolina from Florida. She worked at Maurice's Bar-B-Q in Columbia, South Carolina and may have lived with someone connected with the restaurant before I was born. I may have an older brother. My birth father was possibly married to someone else, but fathered my older brother and me. There is some question about the actual date of my birth. It could have been 7-15-1959, 7-16-1959, 7-17-1959, or 7-18-1959. I think I was about three months old when adopted, so I may have had another name on the first birth certificate. I have had a great life with loving parents. I would like to make connections to the first three months of my life. I would also like to establish a medical background.
